RHS Report Card Letter to Families

Dear Families:

Every year, each public school and district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. A link to our school’s report card is available at

The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more. Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school.

As we all know, last year was a challenging one for students and teachers.  Despite these challenges, you will notice on our report card that over 80% of our students passed the ELA MCAS exam and over 70% of our students passed the Math MCAS exam. In addition, our growth scores were strong in several areas. Students who did not pass the first time have additional opportunities to re-test during the school year. To improve overall student performance in our school, we are working to identify specific standards on the exams that our students struggled with so that we can better prepare this year’s students, as well as make changes to our curriculum for future students. The fact that RHS is now a one-to-one school (every student has a laptop device) has allowed teachers to provide more immediate feedback to student work through the Google Classroom platform, and we know this will make a positive difference as well.

We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see parents as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support. We are currently working on a plan, through the Family School Partnership Initiative Grant that we were awarded, to come up with ideas and ways for parents and families to be connected and involved with the school in more meaningful ways. More information about this work will be shared later in the spring.
