Dear Randolph Public Schools Families,

We are very excited to share important news that will improve health care access for our students. The Randolph Public Schools District and the town of Randolph have partnered with Codman Square Health Center (Codman) to open a School-Based Health Clinic (SBHC), located at Randolph High School (RHS). The SBHC will also treat family members, including siblings and parents, and other members of the community.

Our relationship with Codman was established to support the Town’s community vision for improved health, as outlined in the recent Community Wellness Plan and supported by the Community Needs Assessment.  

The purpose of the SBHC is to ensure all students have access to high quality primary care and mental health/behavioral health care when they need it, helping reduce barriers to care.

The health care services provided at the SBHC will complement the work of school nurses and social workers by providing a readily accessible referral site for students and their families.

The SBHC will be a licensed medical facility that will have two separate entrances and waiting rooms. Students at RHS will access the clinic directly through a RHS only secure access. All other students within the Randolph Public Schools district, along with their families and the community, will access the clinic using a separate entrance into the building.

Randolph residents are not required to be patients at Codman Square Health Center to access care at the SBHC. The student enrollment and registration process shall provide for effective collection of medical, demographic, insurance information and parental consent, as required by Massachusetts regulations. Care will be provided regardless of an individual’s insurance status or ability to pay.

Many Randolph residents are familiar with, or are already patients at, Codman Square Health Center. Codman prides itself on providing community focused healthcare. The health center was established in 1979 and has 25 years of experience providing school-based health care at a high school in Dorchester.

Timeline

In collaboration with the Town and schools, Codman plans to commence health care services gradually. Beginning on or about January 23, 2023, Codman plans to offer RHS students access to behavioral health (BH) services. In the spring, Codman will be expanding behavioral health services to all RPS students, and in the spring/summer of 2023, Codman plans to open the SBHC to the community.

Launch of Behavioral Health Services

The goal of the SBHC Behavioral/Mental Health Team is to complement the existing behavioral services offered within the Randolph Public Schools District and help expand access to care.

Codman’s Behavioral Health Clinical Director, Marie Pierre-Victor, MSW, LICSW, is on the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Social Work. She is a seasoned professional who has decades of experience helping individuals and families address psychological, emotional, behavioral and/or social challenges.

Marie Pierre-Victor, MSW, LICSW and her team, will work with families and school personnel to coordinate and provide behavioral health services.

On January 20, 2023, Ms. Pierre-Victor plans to deliver a 10-minute introductory presentation to all RHS students and teachers during their flex block time. After the presentation, she and her team will host a meet and greet for students.

Pursuant to Massachusetts regulations regarding consent to treat minors, parent/legal guardians must give permission for their child/children to receive behavioral health services unless it is an emergency, the child poses a risk to themselves, or the child is emancipated and/or a mature minor.

RPS, like many schools across the country, has seen a significant increase in demand for behavioral health services. We are pleased to be able to support RPS to expand access to care.
