National Nutrition and Plant Power Month

    Dear Parent and/or Caregiver,

    March is both National Nutrition and Plant Power Month where this month’s Discovery Kitchen theme is designed to engage students in a celebration of plant-based fresh, seasonal and local foods.   Our main goal is to help students explore how they and their families can incorporate more of these powerful foods into their regular diet.

    We are organizing a virtual recipe demo for our entire district community to participate in!  On March 15th and 16th all schools will be distributing a special recipe kit through our remote meal pick up locations for students to build their own lunch at home.  On the menu – Spinach & Strawberry Salad w/ Wheat Berries & Roasted Chickpeas.  Each kit will include all ingredients to make the entrée, paired with a recipe card, and allergen info.  The website link to access our pre-recorded recipe demo for students to follow along with is https://youtu.be/w5A8LlsQ6Ow

    We have attached a recipe for your reference so you can review both the ingredients and allergen info.

    Our goal is to help our students learn how to build their own balanced meal, along with learning about the nutrition benefits of some of the ingredients used in this recipe.  his meal is balanced in lean protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats, all of which are important to have in all of our meals!

    If you do not wish to have your child participate in this recipe demo, please contact our food service department so we can be made aware. 

    We look forward to bringing more events and excitement like this, surrounding all things food and nutrition to our district!  Be sure to share your stories with us by either contacting us directly, or letting your individual schools know.

IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING STUDENT MEAL DISTRIBUTION

  • Dear RPS Students and Families,

    We are excited to welcome back our students to full time In- Person learning, starting in April. Due to an increased number of students participating in the In-Person learning we will be making some changes to food distribution at the Schools and our various other sites.

    In Person Learning-

    Elementary Students will not be enjoying breakfast in the classroom. They will be asked by their teachers if they would like to take breakfast, for the next day, home with them.  Breakfast for the next day will be handed out at dismissal.

    Secondary breakfast will remain the same.

    Remote Student Pick up-

    The High School and Middle School will remain open for All remote student meal pick-up.  *100% Remote Elementary students at Lyons and Donovan can pick up meals at RCMS. 

    *100% Remote Elementary Students at Young and JFK can pick up at RHS. 

    Monday and Thursday from 11:30am-12:15pm

    Complexes and Home Delivery-

    April 1st will be the last day of food distribution at ALL complexes, and Home Delivery. 

    *100% Remote students who previously been receiving home delivery will now need to pick up their meals at either the High School or Middle School.

    We will no longer be providing food over the Vacations.
