The Young School community ensures life-long learning and social competency through dedicated teaching and learning

Dear Parents, Caretakers, and Community members,
We are a “Family” oriented community, representing many cultures, and working towards a single goal:  that of educating our children and preparing them for the world in which they will one day lead.

About Our School

The Martin E. Young School, built in 1967, is a building that is a “home away from home” to 400 students and a staff of 65.  Our building was named for a former Selectman and community member of Randolph, Martin E. Young.

Nineteen classrooms, an art room, gym, computer lab and library complete the make up of our building along with a health room with our full time nurse, the principal’s office, parent center, cafeteria and other small offices that include Occupational and Physical Therapy rooms comprise this single oasis on a side street.

All the basic subjects are taught here at the Young School, English, math, science, social studies, as well as the Second Step Program—a curriculum that provides education in social-emotional skills. Title 1 services and English Language Learner instruction are also provided to our students.  The Martin E. Young School is also home to our Sheltered English Immersion classes (SEI) and students in our Developmental Learning Center (DLC),  both programs hosting students district-wide. We are a full-service school—providing a Social Worker, a Special Education Coordinator and Speech Pathologist to round out the staffing.

For six weeks, our fifth graders work with a member of our Police Department to learn about the G.R.E.A.T Program- Gang Resistance Education And Training, and all classes participate in the Anti-Bullying Program, Second Step.  Instrumental music classes begin in grade 4 and we proudly acclaim our chorus of fourth, fifth and sixth graders.

Our cafeteria hostesses serve nutritional dishes, designed to entice even our most picky eaters and still take care of those students with dietary issues.  One of our most precious gifts—the courtyard, (our “Hidden Treasure”), is a most favored space and widely used by all teachers.  It is completely enclosed, accessible only through the building, with flowering trees, shrubs and plantings done by teachers and students, and -- a frog pond as one of the focal points. Students enjoy the opportunity to plant flowers, observe nature and enjoy the ambiance while reading and studying.

Many parents have a need for before and/or after school care.  We have partnered with Springboard to provide space to accommodate this community need.  Parents may contact Springboard at 781-862-3110.

Recently, our parents and staff worked together to provide a playground area with swing sets and slides, as well as basketball hoops. A softball field and tennis courts sit on our property, and classes in these areas are offered through the Town Recreation Department.
