Week of May 30th

Hello Everyone,

As the spring regular season came to a close late Friday afternoon all eyes will now be focused on our Boys Tennis team as they attempt to play their way through the MIAA State Tournament which should begin for our Blue Devils late next week (seedings will be out Wednesday).  With a 15-7 record they may have a chance to host a first round match.  If last week was any indication as to how well this team is playing (two wins over Whitman-Hanson and a tight loss to Scituate sandwiched between wins over Stoughton and Quincy)  we should prepare for an exciting tournament.  In Girls Tennis action last week wins over both Mashpee and Quincy improved their season win total to 8 which is the most wins for a girls tennis team since the team was created back 10+ years ago.  This team should excel next season as our first , second and third singles as well as our second doubles all return along with a talented group of 7 freshmen.  Baseball had an impressive week going 3-2 and improving their season total to 5 wins besting last year's record and recording the baseball team's most victories in 6 years.  Sweeping both Dorchester games (5-1 and a thrilling come from behind 12-9 victory) and beating Boston International capped off their season.  Softball also ended their season last week with three tough opponents (Pembroke, Mt. Alvernia and Quincy).  Promising freshmen and sophomores will carry this team going forward as the team says goodbye to four from this year's squad.  Boys and Girls Outdoor Track had an impressive showing at last Friday's MIAA Division 3 State Meet.  In boys action the team finished 4th overall with the following performances of note:  Xavier Collins - 1st 200 Meter Dash & 6th 100 Meter Dash, Godfred Mbengam - 3rd 400 Meter Dash, Jerry Acacia - 2nd Triple Jump, 4th 100 Meter Hurdles & 8th Long Jump, Parris Nathan - 3rd Shot Put, Evandro DeCosta - 6th Triple Jump, John Mbengam - 7th Triple Jump and the foursome of Nick Mason, Steph Louis, John Mbengam & Godfred Mbengam won the 4x400 Relay.  In girls action the team finished 18th overall with the following performances of note: Anna Mbengam - 3rd 200 Meter Dash & 4th Javelin, Elisheba Boyd - 9th Triple Jump and the foursome of Kelsey Bamford, Stephanie Desir, Azariah Boyd & Makisha Germain finished 8th in the 4 x 400 Relay.

Week of May 16

Boys Tennis sits one win away from reaching the State Tournament for the third consecutive year. Sandwiching a loss to Scituate between wins over Braintree (4-1) and Middleboro (5-0) improved the team's season record to 9-4.  With a busy two weeks ahead (nine matches) the team should be ready for a potentially long run in the State Tournament.  Girls Tennis found themselves on the short end of three matches last week and currently stand at 6-8 on the season. They will need to take care of business in their remaining seven matches.  Fortunately as the most successful girls tennis team in years this group certainly can achieve a tournament berth.  Boys Track had an interesting week as their only league meet with powerhouse Pembroke ended in a tie.  This meet was for the Fisher Division title.  Our defending outdoor track champions will need to share their title with Pembroke this year.  In the Coaches Invitational this past Saturday it was our Girls Track team who made people take notice.  With a first place finish and multiple top five finishes this young team has a very bright future.  Both teams will compete and most likely place in many events in Tuesday's Patriot League All-League Meet. Baseball played only once last week due to two cancellations, but in their lone game the team played inspired baseball for five innings before falling to Hyde Park early in the week. This week they will battle in five consecutive games due to make-ups from rain cancellations. Softball dropped their only two games last week against Scituate and #9 Middleboro. In the Scituate game revenge was on the mind of the Lady Sailors after our Lady Blue Devils posted a late comeback victory early in the season.  After a back and forth first three innings the Lady Sailors pulled away for a mid-week victory. Boys Volleyball closes out their first varsity season this week with their final home game on Monday against Barnstable then travel to Wellesley and play against the Raiders the following day.  If you have followed this team throughout the season you will have seen a transformation from a group of young men just playing the sport of volleyball to that same group of young men actually "playing volleyball".  I cannot wait to see how this season ends because they are very close to winning their first game and this could be the week.

  Week of Monday May 9

Girls Tennis was off to a fast start last week with an impressive 3-2 victory over Hanover.  The win placed our girls tennis team in a position they have not been in for many years – an over .500 record (6-5) this late in the season.  With the victory the team only needs 5 additional wins to qualify for the State Tournament.  Unfortunately, the remainder of the week did not play out as hoped.  After a rainout with Mashpee on Tuesday the team dropped a 5-0 decision to a very good Pembroke team on Thursday.  Boys Tennis currently sits at 7-4 on the season after a tough week.  Playing both Hanover and Pembroke to 3-2 losses the team beat a good Mashpee team 4-1 on Wednesday.  With four matches this week a State Tournament berth could be secured.  Baseball had a terrific game against Hanover on Monday losing a well played, error free 7-5 contest.  The Blue Devils also had Boston International and Pembroke on the schedule, but rain cancelled the BI game and Pembroke scored too early and too often in a 12-2 loss.  Softball had a busy week with four games.  Two against neighbor Avon and two others against Hanover and Pembroke.  No wins, but a great effort in the Pembroke game led to a hard fought 7-5 loss.  Boys Volleyball met two teams who visited Randolph High School for the first time.  On Monday it was Catholic Memorial paying a visit and the following day saw Keefe Tech.  Both matches went the limit and saw our Blue Devils play inspired volleyball, but experience pushed the visitors to victory. The end of the week it was perennial powerhouse Quincy, but after grabbing the first set it was all Quincy in a 3-1 victory.  Boys and Girls Track had no league meets scheduled, but Saturday saw our teams compete/attempt to compete in the Freshman/Sophomore Meet in Westwood and the Twilight Meet in Weston.  Unfortunately the Twilight Meet was cancelled due to rain, but the Fr/So Meet was able to complete most events with our Randolph runners/field event athletes dominating.  Three first place victories and a few 2nd & 3rd place finishes led to an impressive day before the skies opened and the remainder of the meet was cancelled.

Week of April 4th 2010

After a rainy start to the week it was only our Boys Volleyball team that saw action early on.  The team’s only game of the week took place last Tuesday as our Blue Devils took on the Bears from Greater New Bedford Voke a traditionally strong program.  The match featured some tremendous volley’s and exciting play.  After the first two games which saw GNBV cruise to convincing wins the third game featured the best play of this young season by our Blue Devils.  With the crowd chanting and the gym at peak noise level Randolph took a 21-19 lead before eventually dropping the game 25-22 and the match 3-0.  Boys & Girls Outdoor Track traveled to Middleboro last Wednesday for a crucial Fisher Division meet.  The girl’s team who had lost to Middleboro during the winter season ran away with a convincing 23 point victory.  Numerous key events were swept by our Lady Blue Devils.  The boy’s team was also a winner sweeping every event except for the shot put and javelin.  Both teams currently at 1-0 on the season will have a busy week with meets against both Scituate and Hanover.  The team will also compete against Silver Lake during the Hanover meet. Baseball opened their season with O’Bryant High School on Thursday.  After a clean four innings of error free baseball O’Bryant was able to capitalize on a couple Blue Devil miscues and put back to back hits together multiple times in the fifth inning to pull away with an 8-2 victory.  Just the opposite for our Softball team which played inspired softball after a first inning which saw Boston Globe #6 Boston Latin Academy post 9 runs. Girls Tennis also opened their season on Friday after two consecutive rainouts.  Traveling to Braintree the girls were able to grab one match, but could not pull out a victory losing 4-1.  Just the reverse for our Boys Tennis team who was anxious to get back on the court after a tremendous season last year.  The team did not disappoint dismantling Braintree by a 4-1 score.

Week of April 4th 2010

Hello Everyone,

Welcome Back.  The calendar has changed and we now embark on the spring sports season.  With the addition of the very popular sport of volleyball to our assortment of offerings this spring we can anticipate another outstanding sports season at Randolph High School.  Boys Volleyball will compete as a varsity sport this spring and for the first time in school history.  Because this sport is not offered at the majority of schools in the area we will play a number of schools who we have not played before in any sport including BC High, Catholic Memorial, Keefe Tech, etc., which should prove to be a great opportunity for our student-athletes.  The team kicked off their season last Friday with a match against Durfee High School.  After a tight first game Durfee's experienced players took control and eventually prevailed.  The game featured great crowd support and some very exciting play. Baseball will open their season on Thursday at home with a game against O'Bryant High School out of the Boston City League. Softball will also open this week as they will entertain Boston Latin Academy on Friday at the Sullivan Complex beginning at 3:30pm. Boys & Girls Track unfortunately have been postponed today (Tuesday), but will look to get on track tomorrow in Middleboro.  The two time defending Patriot League Champion Boys team will look to strong senior leadership and experienced runners to get the job done.  The Girls team who boast over 25 runners this spring will look to compete for points in each event and improve upon last years record. The 26 member Girls Tennis team will also look to improve upon last year's record as the team will rely on a number of young student-athletes to fill spots of graduated seniors. Boys Tennis the defending Patriot League Champions with an undefeated 18-0 record last year will look to retain top status in the league. Losing the team's number 1 & 2 singles players and two talented doubles players from last year's roster this year's team will rely on a good mix of seniors and underclassmen to continue the winning ways and return to the State Tournament for the third straight year.

Week of February 14th

Our Randolph High School Co-ed Cheerleading squad leads off this week's recap.  Performing in their only winter season competition the squad qualified for regionals after scoring 49 points in last Thursday's Patriot League/South Shore League Cheer Competition at Whitman-Hanson High School.  Regionals will take place on March 6th, but the location is yet to be determined.  Girls Basketball had a successful week going 2-1.  A tough loss to Quincy sandwiched between wins over Hyde Park and a very good Madison Park team improved the team's record to 9-6 on the season needing two more wins to qualify for the state tournament for the first time since 2004.  Boys Basketball has made a remarkable turnaround since starting the season at 0-5.  After Friday night's quality win over Quincy the team sat at 7-8 on the season, but a three point loss the following day to Hyde Park put the Blue Devils in a position of needing to go 3-1 in their final four games to qualify for the state tournament.  Wrestling visited Wayland High School on Saturday for the individual sectional tournament. Although no wrestlers won their weight class, four qualified for next week's individual state tournament with two third place finishes and two sixth place finishes.  States will be held at Holliston High School on Saturday 2/19.  Boys and Girls Indoor Track participated in the Patriot All - League Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center last Friday.  With a number of PR's our girls team finished 8th out of 10 teams.  Our boys team won the meet edging out Hingham by 10 points. It was events such as shot put, long jump and high jump where the team collected many points to distance themselves from the rest of the league.  The Boys & Girls Swimming season came to an end after Tuesday's meet against Hanover.  With many swimmers trying their hand at new events the team had a great last meet.  Although they said goodbye to the lone senior; Hannah Donovan the future is very bright as a large freshman class and many talented sophomores and juniors will return next season.  The team also held their annual swim-a-thon on Wednesday and visited Randolph's Turner Library on Saturday for their "Dive into Books" campaign.  Finally, if you happened to miss WCVB Channel 5's "High 5" on Randolph High School's Godfred Mbegam the segment can be seen on Channel 5's website for the next few months.

Where Sportsmanship is Expected!

Week of February 7th

Once again a mid-week snow storm caused eight games to be postponed between the high school and middle school. Girls Basketball which was one of the few teams to see action last week saw our Lady Blue Devils inch closer to a state tournament birth with a convincing win over Provincetown (52-29). The team also played and fell to a Scituate team of Lady Sailors who is on a collision course with a state championship in Division II. With their 1-1 record last week our girls basketball team sits at 7-4  - four victories shy of qualifying for the state tournament.  Boys Basketball found itself on the short end of games against Sharon (64-48) and Scituate (77-64), but hope to rebound this week as they take on Middleboro, Hyde Park & Quincy.  With a 5-8 record the team will need to go a minimum of 5-2 the rest of the season to qualify for the state tournament.  Wrestling saw their clash with the Titans of Pembroke postponed, but did compete in Saturday's state team tournament.  After some early success on the mat our Blue Devils finished placing 7th.  This Saturday will be the state individual sectionals in Wayand and we have high hopes for top placements for many of our wrestlers.  Boys and Girls Swimming were the host to Hanover last Monday.  Although both teams fell to the Indians the boys team had some impressive finishes.  Also, Saturday was the Patriot League Swim Meet and our boys team placed 7th of the 9 schools that competed.  In girls action personal best times were found across the board in most races and when the boys hit the pool they broke the Randolph High School record for the 200 freestyle relay. Both teams also shared in winning the league Sportsmanship Award (voted on by opposing coaches).  In Indoor Track both teams were off for most of the week preparing for the Patriot League Meet this Friday.  Randolph boys were the big winners when it came to Patriot League All Star selections as 10 Randolph runners were selected.  The girls 4x400 relay team was also selected as Patriot League All Stars.  Our Cheerleaders will compete in the Patriot League/South Shore League Cheer Competition this Thursday at Whitman Hanson beginning at 7:00pm.

In Middle School Boys & Girls Basketball action last week two 20+ point victories by our boys team capped another successful season.  In girls action continued improvement was seen throughout the year as the team completed their season with two competitive games last week against Oliver Ames and Canton.

 Week of January 31st

Last week's Blue Devils Boys Indoor Track team captured their third straight Patriot League Championship with an impressive performance over Middleboro clinching the title.  The team improved to 4-1 on the season (4-0 in PL Fisher League play).  Over the last three years this program has dominated the speed and relay events while scoring numerous points in the long jump and shot-put. Coach Welch has found a way to replace graduating seniors with equally talented runners.  Their last major quest after this year's league title and their recent State Relay title will be a Division III State Championship.  The state championships will be held in two weeks.  Girls Indoor Track also competed last week against the Sachems of Middleboro.  Trying to add to their two victories this season the team fell just short in a very close meet. Wrestling had a busy week taking on two powerhouse programs in Hanover and Tewksbury.  In the Hanover match an unfortunate disqualification was the difference as the Indians were able to hold on for a 41-37 win.  The following day it was Division II Tewksbury who invaded our West Gym.  After some early Blue Devil success in the lighter weight classes it was our visitors who pulled out the victory.  A clash with the Titans of Pembroke this week then the team will prepare for sectionals the following week.  Boys & Girls Swimming was also a busy group hosting Medfield on Monday and traveling to Bridgewater State to swim against the Trojans of Bridgewater-Raynham HS on Tuesday.  Although both teams found themselves on the losing end of their meet with Medfield the teams rebounded nicely against BR the following day.  Please be sure to read the article on our swim team in the Randolph Herald (this or next week) as they give back to the Randolph community with their "Dive into Books" community service project.  The team will be at the library in two weeks and plans on spending the day reading to children.  Boys Basketball found themselves on the short end of a 52-40 game with Somerville on Monday.  Although the team gave a good effort they could not find the bottom of the basket enough.  With a 5-6 record last Thursday's game with Hyde Park would have been a great indicator as to what we could expect for the final half of the season, but mother nature interfered once again and the game was postponed.  Girls Basketball (6-3) will resume their schedule after a week of no games with a trip to Provincetown on Tuesday, Mount St. Joe's on Wednesday and will then host Scituate on Friday.

Boys & Girls Middle School Basketball will close out their seasons this week with three games.  The teams will host Easton on Monday, Foxboro on Wednesday and will travel to Canton on Friday.

 Week of January 24th

This past week saw Randolph High School winter sports teams post a 14-6 combined record.  Girls Indoor Track collected their first two victories of this season over Quincy and North Quincy last Wednesday.  The wins were actually the first two wins the team has had in over four years.  The increased size of the team and the dedication of each athlete this season has proved to pay dividends.  Both the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams qualified for states as well as a number of individual qualifiers.  The week was also very successful for the Blue Devil Wrestling team as they too recorded two victories over both Quincy and Middleboro improving their record to 3-1-1.  Coming off a very successful tournament the previous Saturday which saw two RHS wrestlers take home weight class championships the team rolled into last week's matches and posted convincing victories.  Boys Basketball also is on a roll winning 5 of their last 6 games and improving their record to 5-6 on the season.  The five wins have now positioned the team to potentially qualify for a State Tournament berth.  With still a long way to go last week's three victories over Seekonk 57-43, Hyde Park 52-44 and Warwick RI 56-53 were very encouraging.  Girls Basketball continued along the State Tournament road last week as well.  With just one game (one game postponed due to snow) the team improved their season record to 6-3 with a double digit victory over Hyde Park. Great team defense and lights out shooting have been keys to the team's success. Boys Indoor Track also was victorious over Quincy and North Quincy by large margins last week.  The team is currently 4-1 on the season and will need to beat Middleboro on Tuesday to secure their third consecutive Patriot League Championship.  Boys and Girls Swimming competed against Middleboro, Scituate and Cohasset last week.  Although neither team came away with a victory the boys team lost to Cohasset by only 6pts. and Middleboro by a slim margin while posting some very impressive individual victories.  The girls team continues to improve and has recently swam very close meets against both Cohasset and Middleboro. Both teams will be busy this week again with three scheduled meets.

Boys and Girls Middle School Basketball will host both Braintree East and Canton this week after visiting Pembroke and entertaining Milton last week.

 Week of January 17th

What a week!!! Despite losing two days of games and matches due to the snow storm last week our Randolph Blue Devils teams plowed their way to a very impressive week. Boys Indoor Track captured the Division III State Relay Championship on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. First place finishes in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays as well as 2nd place finishes in the hurdle relays and the shot put and a 3rd place finish in the long jump was just enough to inch past Bishop Feehan for the State Championship. GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT!  Girls Indoor Track also competed in the State Relays on Saturday.  The highlight for the girls was a 5th place finish in the 4x400 relay and their best time of the year.  Both B&G Indoor Track had their meet against North Quincy postponed earlier in the week because of snow.  Wrestling was also on the docket for Saturday as the team competed in the Peckum Tournament in Canton.  Not to be outdone our Blue Devils were able to take home 1st place in two weight classes, 2nd place in three other weight classes and two 4th places as well. Another impressive showing by our wrestlers.  The team finished third, their highest team finish in many years. Wrestling was another sport that fell victim to the snow last week as their match with Quincy on Wednesday was postponed.  The team will now host Quincy on Monday 1/17 @ 9:00am – West Gym. Girls Basketball was able to get in one of their two games last week as they took on the Titans from Pembroke. After a close first half it was all Randolph in the second half beating Pembroke by 12 pts. Their record currently stands at 5-3 for the season. Boys Basketball made it two in a row with an impressive victory of Pembroke.  Never trailing in the game the Blue Devils easily put away Pembroke by a score of 67-39 for their second victory of the season and second in a row. Boys & Girls Swimming was on the road early in the week traveling to powerhouse Duxbury.  Despite a Duxbury victory the Blue Devils did have some impressive individual performances with a couple second place finishes and capturing first place in the boys 500. The team will swim at Middleboro next Tuesday then host Scituate on Thursday.

Middle School Boys and Girls Basketball had two games last week traveling to both Milton and Braintree East.  Both teams had very good showings in Milton on Monday despite coming up short (Boys lost 50-40 & Girls lost 32-25).  Both teams will again travel on Wednesday to Pembroke then host Milton on Thursday.

Week of January 10th

Hello Everyone,

Boys Basketball captured their first victory of the season last Friday night taking down the Hanover Indians 58-53. The Blue Devils never trailed in this contest and was able to hold off a Hanover comeback attempt late in the game by making some clutch free throws.  Girls Basketball currently at 4-3 on the season picked up another win on the road in Charlestown last Thursday.  Wrestling also was on the road last week in Scituate taking on the Sailors.  In a very close match the Blue Devils came up a little short.  Girls and Boys Swimming had a very exciting week hosting Quincy/North Quincy then traveling to Pembroke to take on the Titans.  Although our swimmers were able to win the majority of the meets they competed in they fell to both as Pembroke & Q/NQ were able to fill most all events which allowed them to score uncontested points and pull out the wins Boys & Girls Indoor Track also ran last week with the boys taking on perennial powerhouse Whitman-Hanson and the girls taking former arch rival Rockland.  The boys team fell to WH by a slim 7 points for their first loss of the season (3-1) and the girls also experienced a tough loss falling to the Bulldogs by 15 points. Both teams also had their freshman & sophomores run in the Freshman/Sophomore Invitational last Saturday.  Numerous runners and won medals for outstanding performances. Middle School Boys & Girls Basketball traveled to both Braintree East and Easton MS for two tough games last week and will be back on the road this week as well traveling to Milton and Braintree South for games.

 Week of December 20th

Hello Everyone,

The winter sports season began last week with a bang.  Our Wrestling team was first to kick off their season with an encouraging tie (39-39) at Bristol Plymouth a week ago Friday.  From there the team competed in the Peckum Tournament finishing 6th out of 12 teams participating and ahead of perennial powerhouse BC High (D1).  Two of our wrestlers finished 2nd and two 3rd within their weight classes. Everett High School was next up and in front of a packed West Gym the team demolished their opponent 69-12. The team finished off the week with a tremendous showing at the Patriot League Jamboree with Randolph's David Frye winning the heavyweight division and two others finishing second within their weight class.  Girls Basketball opened their season with a 25 point victory over Mount Saint Joseph's followed by a tough loss to Scituate High School last Friday.  The Boys Basketball team also drew Scituate last week in their home opener, but could not overcome a large first quarter deficit falling to the Sailors. Sunday's games at Seekonk were postponed and will be played later in the season.  Boys & Girls Swimming dove into their season with two meets last week.  A non-league contest against Norwell allowed for our young swim team to gain some valuable meet experience against a seasoned Clippers team.  The following meet saw our boys and girls teams square off with Silver Lake.  On the girls side we saw some exciting races, but the highlight of the meet was the final race on the boys side. With Silver Lake slightly ahead in points (56-54) the meet came down to who would win the relay.  Although a gallant effort was given we finished just short. Finally, Boys and Girls Indoor Track traveled to the Reggie Lewis Center as their season opened last Wednesday vs. Scituate.  The two time defending Patriot League Champion boys team continued their winning ways with a convincing victory.  Our girls team, the largest in many years, lost a close one. New coach Jon Ridolfi was very happy with the girl's effort and is optimistic for the remainder of the season.

Boys & Girls Middle School Basketball will roll the ball out on Monday afternoon as they host Pembroke.  Between the girls and boys games at approximately 4:30pm the Middle School Gymnasium will be dedicated to Bob Gass in recognition of his 24 years of service on the Randolph School Committee and more than 40 years of working with the youth of Randolph, including youth basketball, baseball and softball.  All are welcome to attend the dedication.

Week of November 1st

Hello Everyone,

According to longtime Randolph Boys Soccer Coach Ed Weiand, after the team beat Southeastern Regional in their final regular season match on Friday this year's Boys Soccer team finished with the best record (most points) in school history. The 3-1 victory over SRVT made history as the team finished with a 13-3-2 record and most likely a top 4,5 or 6 spot in the State Tournament which will begin either the end of next week or the beginning of the following week. Tremendous team play and outstanding goal keeping contributed to the success.  It was great seeing many RHS faculty members and students as well as the boys counterparts - the girls soccer team there cheering the team on.  Our Girls Soccer season came to an end last week, but not before a senior day that did not disappoint.  Playing in their last game at RHS the 9 seniors after a halftime celebration went out on a winning note beating Avon 3-1. Girls Volleyball also completed their inaugural varsity season with an emotional senior day in their last game on Wednesday. In pre-game festivities Coach Papalambros introduced the entire varsity team calling the team "Randolph's First".  Great season that saw lots of growth by the team and plenty of interest and support from the student-body.  Varsity Football collected their second win of the season on Saturday at Victory Field in Watertown as they took it to Trinity Catholic.  After spotting the Warriors 6 points in the first quarter it was all Randolph as they scored 34 unanswered points winning 34-6. A grinding run based offense and tenacious defense were the keys to victory.  The Blue Devils will take on Cape Cod Tech this Friday at 6:00pm at Memorial Field in the last home game of the season.  Boys and Girls Cross Country participated in the Patriot League - All-League Meet last Tuesday.  This young team which will have over thirty runners returning next season gained valuable experience throughout the season and improved in each and every meet.  The Blue Devil Cheerleaders will compete on Thursday (11/4) in the Patriot League Championships at Whitman-Hanson beginning at 6pm.

Middle School Boys and Girls Soccer had a busy final week of the season with three games each .  The boys team ended on a great note finishing with two victories and a tie to bring their season record to 3-4-3 while the girls team played some very close games coming  up just short in a handful of them. Coach Norton and Coach Gray did a great job with the teams. Middle School Cross Country will close out their season with the State Middle School Meet on Saturday.  Unfortunately the team's only home meet of the season with Hanson Middle School was cancelled on Wednesday due to the weather, but the team was able to get in one last meet before next weekend as they traveled to Hingham on Thursday.

Week of October 25th

Hi Everyone,

The week leading up to Homecoming found our Blue Devil teams with a very busy schedule.  Boys Soccer had a four game week and collected 2 victories and a tie to improve their overall season record to 11-3-2.  The team has two remaining games and with victories they will have compiled the best record in boys soccer in over 20 years. Girls Soccer had an impressive week with victories over Mount St. Joseph's (6-1) and Minuteman Tech (1-0).  The team will look to build on last week's success as they finish out their season on Thursday at home vs. Avon.  Girls Volleyball will also complete their inaugural varsity season on Wednesday as they take on Silver Lake.  Last week saw some exciting play especially in the Hanover game as the team came very close to winning the second set of the match.  Boys and Girls Cross Country ran their last league meet on Tuesday as they hosted Patriot League powerhouse Duxbury.  Nineteen personal best times were the highlight for the Blue Devils as the program continues to improve week after week.  The All-League Meet will be held on Tuesday at Silver Lake.  After our Homecoming Rally on Friday afternoon and the annual Homecoming Parade Friday night our Varsity Football team took on the Seekonk Warriors. After a first half that did not disappoint with both teams playing superb defense, Seekonk carried a 13-7 lead into the halftime celebration. Kicking off the festivities was the introduction of the fall sports teams and their coaches as well as the Randolph/Holbrook Pop Warner program. Following two great performances by our Marching Band and Cheerleaders, this year's King, Queen and their Court were introduced. The second half saw a recovered onside kick to begin the third quarter by the Warriors lead to a Seekonk offensive explosion as the game ended 34-7.

Middle School Boys and Girls Soccer played host to Bridgewater on Friday after traveling to Braintree earlier in the week.  The boys team had a great week with a 1-1 tie on Tuesday and a convincing 4-1 victory on Friday.  The girls who have over 30 players and work a rotating group of players into each game fell just short in their three games.  Middle School Cross Country participated in the Boston Mayor's Cup at Franklin Park Sunday.  Twenty three RCMS runners competed in two different age groups.  In the 11/12yr. old meet 155 runners competed with our top runner finishing 15th.  In the 12/13yr. old meet 105 runners ran with our top finisher coming in 26th.  All runners who finished the race received a great BAA medal.

Week of October 18th

Hello Everyone,

Boys Soccer qualified for the State Tournament with two impressive wins last week raising their overall record to 9-2-1 on the season. Wanting to avenge one of their two losses, Thursday's game with Scituate was fast and furious.  Up 3-1 late in the game Scituate scored a controversial goal cutting Randolph's lead to 3-2 then poured on the pressure, but strong goal keeping and some terrific defensive play allowed the Blue Devils to secure the victory.  Standing between Randolph and a second consecutive State Tournament appearance was Abington on Friday.  An early goal six minutes into the game led the way to a 7-1 Blue Devils victory.  Girls Soccer had a busy week with three games.  Everett was first up for the Lady Blue Devils and after spotting the Crimson Tide a 3 goal lead it was all Randolph, the team fell just short losing 3-2.  Scituate and Abington were up next and although both games ended in loses there was a lot of encouraging play by many of the underclassmen.  Cross Country hosted a combined Quincy/North Quincy team last Tuesday and ran very competitively with many runners hitting personal best times. The team will host their last home meet of the season on Tuesday as the Green Dragons from Duxbury will visit Randolph.  In Football action on Friday night the Blue Devils paid a visit to Cape Cod with a game at Nauset High School. In a driving rainstorm it was Nauset who weathered the storm scoring early and often on their way to a 35-6 halftime advantage.  Two more touchdowns by the host and a very nice 35 yard touchdown toss by Randolph closed out the scoring for both teams.  Randolph will host Seekonk High School in Friday night's Homecoming Game at 7pm. Girls Volleyball started the second half of their season with games against Hingham and North Quincy last week.  Both games ended in 3-0 losses, but the first year team continues to improve with better team play and confidence. The Lady Blue Devils will play host to WH, Hanover and Quincy this week.

Sunday (10/17) both our girls soccer and girls volleyball teams visited the campus of Boston College and participated in the Council for Women of Boston College.  Each team attended a BC game (Volleyball - BC vs. Miami & Soccer - BC vs. Clemson), met the college players and coaches, asked questions, took pictures, etc.  Great event and great day for our teams.  Also, please be sure to support the Randolph High School Football Team as they conduct their "Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness" on Saturday (10/23) from 9am - 3pm on the track.

Middle School Soccer had two games last week and each team has made great strides and improved along the way.  This week will see our Jr. Blue Devils competing twice (home/away) against Braintree South and will host Bridgewater on Friday. The RCMS Cross Country team competed at Hanson Middle School last Wednesday in a meet that included Hanson, Hingham, Silver Lake and Old Rochester and did very well with 2 top finishers.  The boys race included 95 runners and the girls had 65.  The meet prompted one of our middle school runners to say "This is the best day ever.  I never want to forget this moment.".  That's what its all about.......

Week of October 11th

Hello Everyone,

Once again we'll lead off with our Girls Volleyball team.  In the mist of a 4 game week our girls volleyball team opened our newly renovated poolside gym on Tuesday. In the teams first home match against highly touted North Quincy seats to watch this event were at a premium as the student-body, RHS staff and RHS administrators packed the gym.  Both the varsity and jv squads had the place rocking with some terrific play. North Quincy eventually prevailed, but what a memorable first home match.  Two more home games and an away contest at Silver Lake rounded out the week for our Lady Blue Devils.  Southeastern Voc Tech was next on the schedule for our Varsity Football team last Friday night.  A large crowd, great support from our cheerleading squad, great weather and a terrific halftime performance from our Randolph High School Marching Band were not enough as Southeastern left Memorial Field with a 20-8 victory. After a first half that was a tight defensive struggle (6-0 SVT) the visitors scored twice in the fourth quarter before Randolph rounded out the scoring late in the game.  The team will travel to Nauset High School on Friday night for a 7pm game.  JV Football played Southeastern on Monday morning (10/11) in a defensive battle that saw neither team break the goal line in a 0-0 tie. Girls Soccer recorded their first victory of the season with a 4-1 win at home vs. Minuteman Tech on Monday.  Later in the week rain caused havoc again with the cancellation of their match with Mt. St. Joe's before getting back on the field against Brockton on Friday.  In Boys Soccer action Minuteman Tech could not stand in the way of our Blue Devils as the team cruised to an 8-0 win improving their record to 7-2-1.  The Blue Devils will be tested later this week as they host Scituate who handed them the first of their two losses this season. Boys & Girls Cross Country hosted Silver Lake on Thursday (rainout on Tuesday).  Great efforts by all our Blue Devil runners.  If you ever have an opportunity to watch a cross country meet take notice on how encouraging both our boys and girls teams are for all those racing. There is not another team in this league that shows as much sportsmanship as our cross country runners.

In Middle School Soccer action this past week rain again caused the cancellation of another match.  However, the teams were able to play Friday afternoon against Oliver Ames of Easton.  This week will see both teams competing in two matches.  The first will be Tuesday as they travel to former RCMS Principal John Sheehan's new school - Braintree East.  Wednesday the teams will take on Raynham Middle School at home with the boys at 3:30pm and the girls to follow at 4:40pm.  Finally the RCMS Cross Country team coached by Megan Seseske will have a chance to compete as they will travel to Hanson Middle School for their first meet of the season on Wednesday at 3:30pm.

Week of October 4th

Hello Everyone,

Last week in Blue Devil sports saw our first year varsity Girls Volleyball team win their first set.  Although they came up short in the match (3-1) they were able to earn a hard fought victory in the second set of match against Middleboro.  A historical events and a great accomplishment.  In Football action last Friday night some wet weather caused some untimely fumbles leading to a loss to Quincy High School 26-8.  The team played well throughout the first half and never gave up at the end, but just could not contained the well balanced Quincy offensive attack.  Randolph will face off Friday night at home vs. Southeastern Voc. Tech at 7pm.  Girls Soccer after an early week rainout vs. Everett traveled to Abington last Wednesday. After a close 1-0 half Abington pulled away for the victory. Hoping to bounce back vs. Avon on Friday the rains appeared once again causing postponement.  Boys Soccer continued rolling with another convincing victory over Abington in their only match of the week 3-0.  With the top three leading goal scorers in the Patriot League the team will bring their 6-2-1 record into this afternoon's home match with Minuteman Tech.  Boys & Girls Cross Country ran in a soaking rain at Hingham last Tuesday.  On Saturday our runners participated in the MSTCA Bay State Invitational held in Wrentham.  In this highly competitive race most of our runners reached personal best times.  The team will face off against Silver Lake on Tuesday at home then participate in the Freshman/Sophomore Meet in Barnstable on Saturday.

Boys and Girls Middle School Soccer opened their season last Tuesday as Braintree East visited High Street.  Despite some heavy downpours throughout the afternoon both the girls and boys teams continued playing. In girls action after Randolph scored the first goal of the match Braintree pressured hard and came away with a victory.  The same was true in the boys match.  In a very even game Braintree eventually pulled away with a 3-1 victory.  Friday's matches in Bridgewater were postponed due to rain and will be rescheduled for later in the season. Middle School Cross Country with a squad of 35 runners will kick off their season next week against Hanson.

 Week of September 27th

Hello Everyone,

Last week saw all our Blue Devils teams play within the Patriot League.  Boys Soccer came away with a 1-1-1 week improving their overall season record to 5-2-1.  In Girls Soccer action although the team came up short in their two matches they played very well in Wendesday's Pembroke match losing a close one.  The girls now will head into the non-league stretch of their season where they will make up some ground.  If you were driving near the high school last Tuesday around 4pm you may have seen hundreds of athletes running the streets of Randolph.  Tuesday was our first home Cross-Country meet as we hosted both Hanover and cross-country powerhouse Whitman-Hanson.  Between the three schools there were close to two hundred runners. Whitman-Hanson took both the boys and girls races, but Randolph with our largest team in years (40 runners) ran very well and improved their times from the first race of the season. Girls Volleyball came very close to winning their first point of the season when they matched up with Hingham last Monday.  Varsity Football matched up with undefeated Watertown last Friday night at Victory Field and lost a nail bitter 16-12.  Down 3-0 the Blue Devils scored on an 81 yard pass play, but found itself trailing at halftime 9-6.  The second half was back and forth with strong defense on both sides and the teams trading touchdowns. However, after a fumble recovery late in the game by Randolph, Watertown's defense stood strong and prevailed.

Middle School Soccer will open their season on Tuesday Sept. 28th at home vs. Braintree East. MS Cross Country will run their first meet on October 13th at Hanson Middle School.

 Week of September 20th

Hello Everyone,

This past week saw our varsity football team climb into the win column (1-1) after rolling over Latin Academy 20-6 on Saturday.  Solid defense and some big plays on offense were the keys to the victory.  Boys varsity soccer improved to 4-1 on the young season with wins over Quincy (3-0) and Middleboro  (3-1) last week.  The team experienced their first setback of the season losing a hard fought 2-1 game against Scituate.  In girls varsity soccer action the team held on to tie Quincy 2-2 on Thursday.  Earlier in the week two of the top teams in the Patriot League - Scituate and Middleboro ran past our Lady Blue Devils.  Girls volleyball continues to impress with tough play each match.  No wins yet this season, but for a first year varsity program they are well ahead of schedule. Boys & girls cross country will take on both Hanover & Whitman-Hanson at home on Tuesday at 3:30pm. The team ran well in their first meet last week in Pembroke.

Middle School soccer will begin their season on Sept. 28th at home vs. Braintree East. MS Cross Country will run their first meet the beginning of October.

Team rosters will be sent out later this week to all RHS staff.  Please remember to visit www.highschoolsports.net for all up to date team schedules (middle school included).  Also, visit the RHS Athletics webpage for all high school sports information including coaches contacts and directions to all Patriot League fall sports venues.
